The 5 Best Preschools in Sydney Trusted by Parents for Early Learning

Educational Framework: We evaluated how each center structures its daily learning activities and curriculum choices. High marks went to programs that balance child-led play with structured school readiness skills.

Location and Accessibility: We focused on how easy it is for busy parents to handle the morning and afternoon drop-off rush. This means looking closely at nearby transport links, train stations, and dedicated parking options.

Facility and Outdoor Space: We examined the actual physical environment where the children spend their days. We prioritised centres that offer creative, spacious outdoor play areas even within dense urban environments.

Operating Hours and Flexibility: We checked the opening schedules to ensure they accommodate modern working routines. Centres with extended hours or rare weekend options scored higher for convenience.

Are you navigating the complex childcare subsidy system for the first time after relocating to New South Wales? Or maybe you’re looking for a convenient centre near your corporate office?

When it comes to choosing the best preschool in Synday for your child, the stakes feel incredibly high. Finding the right early education spot in this bustling city can feel completely overwhelming, though.

Of course, you want a safe, nurturing space that helps your child hit key milestones while fitting your daily routine, and I completely relate!

So, to make life easier, we did the heavy lifting to find the top early learning centres across the city. Here is our personal shortlist of the best preschools in Sydney to help you find the perfect fit without the stress.

Address: 26 Renwick Street, Marrickville

Hours: Monday to Saturday 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM

Finding a neighbourhood spot that feels like a genuine home away from home is a massive win for young families.

Inner West Kids at Marrickville is a boutique, owner-operated centre that shines with an incredibly warm, family-style atmosphere. It’s actually managed directly by a passionate director with an arts and early education background.

When I visited the site last month, the intentional play-based curriculum instantly stood out because it perfectly balances child-led discovery with educator-led learning to hit key milestones.

They also offer incredible flexibility for busy schedules by opening on Saturdays, which is a rare find across the city. On top of that, their wonderful approach to community integration and special needs inclusion ensures every family feels genuinely supported.

Just keep in mind that they close at 5:30 PM, which might feel like a tight rush if you‘re commuting back late.

Pros

  • Saturday availability from early morning
  • Boutique family-run environment
  • Strong track record with special needs
  • Evidence-based play learning approach

Cons

  • Early weekday closing time at 5:30 PM

Nurturing environment

We are grateful for the positive changes Ghada has brought to the preschool under her new management. Her dedication, fresh ideas, and commitment to creating a nurturing environment have made a noticeable difference. Thank you for all your hard work and care!

Loving and enriching environment

Ghada and her team could not have done more to make my 3 year old son feel welcome in a loving and enriching environment despite only being there for a short time (only due to personal circumstances). The centre is clean, safe and fun for the children. The educators deliver an exceptional learning program. Had our living situation not changed we would have 100% stayed and I would recommend IWK Marrickville without a doubt.

2. Barangaroo Montessori Academy Childcare Centre

Address: 33-49 Sussex Street

Contact: 1300 000 162

Hours: Monday to Friday 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM

Commuting city professionals who want a top-tier education right near the office will love how Bangaroo Montessori Academy Childcare Centre sets itself apart.

Here, they combine the traditional, hands-on Montessori method with the Australian government Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) across a smart three-level layout.

This tailored educational framework means your child develops strong problem-solving skills through self-correcting learning materials while building a solid foundation for future private schools.

On top of that, the campus features four massive, age-segregated outdoor spaces right in the CBD, giving kids plenty of room to move.

However, due to high demand and strict class sizes, you often face long waitlists. The designated parking is also off-site, around the corner, which can complicate rainy-day pickups.

Pros

  • Prime city location and commute access
  • Dual educational framework with EYLF
  • Government Child Care Subsidy approved
  • Large age-segregated outdoor spaces

Cons

  • Off-site drop-off parking around the corner
  • Enrollment and waitlist bottlenecks

Highly recommend

I highly recommend this childcare! At barangaroo Montessori Academy we feel valued and respected! My child loves to go to childcare and excited to see her friends everyday. Kuddos to all the educators of this centre. Special thanks to her Preschool teachers, Miss Moon, Marla, Mr. Federico, Mr. Nikky, Miss Angel and all the teachers in Barangaroo Montessori. You made a huge difference in our lives❤️

Incredible experience for our baby

Montessori Barangaroo has been an incredible experience for our baby. The educators are dedicated, nurturing and highly professional. They communicate clearly, provide great feedback, and create a calm Montessori environment that supports real learning and independence. The centre is always clean, organised and welcoming. We feel completely confident leaving our little one here. Highly recommend to any parent looking for quality care!

Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM

Corporate life demands a lot of flexibility, and having an on-site owner-operator like Paul Ludlow means families at Explore & Develop get a highly personalised experience.

The facility offers some of the longest operating hours I’ve seen in the city. They also have free undercover parking to take the sting out of the morning commute.

Another big plus is that they serve healthy meals from breakfast through dinner, ensuring your child is well fed during long workdays.

Little learners also enjoy an incredible urban excursion program that regularly visits iconic local landmarks like Hyde Park and the Sydney Opera House.

I also appreciate how they integrate built-in Spanish, Mandarin, and sports lessons directly into their school readiness curriculum.

On the downside, the premium pricing is on the high end, and the high-rise setting lacks a traditional open-air grassy backyard.

Pros

  • On-site owner-operator hands-on care
  • Extended hours for commuting parents
  • Included language and sports lessons
  • Free undercover parking spaces

Cons

  • Premium daily pricing scale
  • High-rise urban environment limitations

Very happy to recommend them

We were at Explore and Develop from baby room all the way to the preschool room.  Our little one had a great time there, with great carers throughout all stages.  At Every single stage of our child’s development we were lucky enough to have carers who just went out of their way to engage with the kids with various developmental activities, excursions and incursions (for e.g. Thursday sports where Coach Al comes for a sports coaching) Very happy to recommend them to other parents.

Fun learning environment

Paul and all the staff here are exceptional! They provided a fun learning environment for our son that was safe.  The food provided was also exceptional with a wide variety of food provided while remaining conscious of food allergies.  Overall a great experience!  Thank you Paul.

Hours: Monday to Friday 6:30 AM – 6:30 PM

Parents who appreciate a thorough, multi-year runway for school preparation will find a lot to love at Guardian Childcare & Education.

At this recently refurbished George Street facility, the educators focus on hands-on, real-world learning, like exploring early math concepts through baking, rather than relying on standard classroom repetition.

A close friend of mine who sends her son here constantly praises their comprehensive two-year school preparation program.

Children also benefit from a highly personalised approach that focuses on individual developmental milestones and on regular visits to local primary schools.

Plus, the central location offers extended hours and a surprisingly large outdoor space with a bike track and a veggie garden.

But keep in mind that navigating busy central transit routes during peak rush hour with a toddler can feel incredibly hectic. Also, the mixed-age setup makes the environment feel quite bustling.

Pros

  • Extended day care hours
  • Two-year preparation curriculum runway
  • Central George Street accessibility
  • Refurbished outdoor play areas

Cons

  • Premium city centre pricing structure
  • Peak-hour city transit logistics
  • Busy mixed-age environment setup

Really provide each child with the attention they need

My experience at George St has been really positive- I currently have two children attending the toddler and Preschool rooms respectively. You can tell how passionate and caring the educators are and really provide each child with the attention they need and build on their interests. I have been a parent here since 2017 and have never been happier with the level of care my children are receiving.

Very helpful, happy, and positive

The centre looks really nice and tidy, my daughter started when she’s around 7 months, although she only comes one day a week, the educators will always includes her, very helpful, happy, and positivewriting observation and you can really see how they cared and love to be around children. The educators always very helpful, happy, and positive. The CM also very thoughtful, supportive and always communicating everything that happened in the centre. I’m glad that my daughter becomes a part of George Street community! 😍

5. Kids Club Child Care Clarence Centre

Website: https://www.kidsclubchildcare.com.au/clarence-st-centre/

Address: 83 Clarence St

Contact: 1300 154 372 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday 7:30 AM – 6:30 PM

Stepping right off the train at Wynyard Station brings you directly to TKISD Club Child Care Clarence Centre, making it a dream for public transport commuters.

Another aspect I love is their truly all-inclusive fee structure. With this, they take a massive burden off your shoulders by covering everything from dental checks and speech screenings to all diapers and fresh meals cooked by an on-site chef.

This centre is also an ideal layout if you’re transitioning from early nursery and toddler Care into a structured early learning routine.

Working mothers will appreciate the dedicated, comfortable breastfeeding spaces that make it easy to pop over from nearby offices. Plus, the custom-designed, award-winning playscapes use top-tier biometric security to keep everyone safe.

However, the urban environment means the outdoor deck is often shaded by surrounding skyscrapers. It’s also important to note that their underground drop-off parking has a strict 15-minute cap.

Pros

  • Government funding partnership incentives
  • Acclaimed school readiness curriculum
  • Immediate Wynyard Station access
  • All-inclusive daily fee structure

Cons

  • Strict fifteen-minute parking time limits
  • Limited direct sunlight from skyscrapers

Beautiful centre

Kids Club is a beautiful centre that has cared for my two babies. The centre has a lot of love and there is care taken with each child. The centre has a beautiful outdoor play area and the staff turnover is low. Thank you for everything Kids Club Clarence Street.
