Executive Chef Tom Gorringe brings a seasonal approach to the kitchen, making every dish feel precise and well-balanced from start to finish. 

They also offer a refined 5- or 8-course tasting menu that celebrates Australian produce and tells the story behind each ingredient, with each course feeling carefully tied to season and place.

One thing to note is that lunch isn’t served Monday to Wednesday, so it’s mostly an evening destination during those days. 

Nonetheless, the harbour views at night make the experience well worth it, especially as the city lights reflect across the water.

Every dish was outstanding

The entire experience was exceptional, beginning with the stunning view, followed by the attentive staff, and culminating in the exquisite cuisine. From start to finish, it was truly remarkable. I indulged in the 5-course tasting menu, and every dish was outstanding. While the food may take some time to arrive, it is certainly worth the wait.

Once in a lifetime dining experience

The food was absolutely exceptional. I’ve never spent nearly four hours enjoying a tasting menu, but the experience here was so unforgettable that time simply flew by. If you appreciate clever flavour combinations, this glass-fronted wharf venue really delivers something memorable. LuMi Dining brings a relaxed fine dining feel that blends modern Italian food with a subtle Japanese twist, all while staying focused on seasonal produce.

On top of that, you can go for an elevated Omakase-style chef’s selection if you want to see Chef Federico’s creativity in full flow. 

The only downside is that they can’t really handle multiple dietary restrictions at once. If you follow a vegan or dairy-free diet, I recommend checking the menu first before you book.

But if you’ve got an open palate, the inventive pasta dishes and carefully curated global wine list are genuinely impressive. It easily holds its own among the top Italian restaurants in Sydney, thanks to its unique approach and style.

Good date night ambience

Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at LuMi and would highly recommend if you like bold, punchy flavours and creative twists. We settled for the tasting menu and some highlights were the uni gunkan, the toothfish and agnolotti – absolutely delicious with interesting textures. The desserts were also very refreshing and a great way to end the night. Service was great – very attentive and accommodating. Allow for at least 2.5hrs of dining time. Pretty unique location and good date night ambience.

A Michelin-worthy tasting menu

One of my favorite restaurants as a well-traveled American. Beautiful pier views of the bay with a Michelin worthy tasting menu of the most delightfully plated tour of flavors that perfectly fuse Italian and Japanese tastes. Wine list is also impressive. We will be coming back.

Heading out to Surry Hills always feels lively, especially when you’re getting a group together for a shared meal at NOMAD Sydney. 

Their kitchen brings together Middle Eastern, Spanish, and Moroccan-inspired dishes, all cooked over fire and smoke, with a strong focus on quality local produce and flexible group dining.

It actually offers a great change of pace if you’re tired of traditional steakhouses in Sydney and want something a bit more vibrant and social.

Upon entering, you’ll notice the smoky aroma from the open kitchen, which instantly pulls you in and sets the tone for the whole experience. And I love how the clear dietary labelling for vegan and gluten-free options makes ordering really easy. 

One small drawback is the menu change for larger groups. The main dish switches from spatchcock to lamb shoulder once your table hits 12 or more people, but the price stays the same, which can feel a bit inconsistent.

Had a fab dinner here even though we were ‘those guests’. I forgot to mention my friends allergy, wanted to mix up the tasting menu yada yada… staff handled w/ grace. Food was tasty & very generous in portion sizes.

All very tasty

We went for a Sunday lunch, a lot quieter than Friday or Saturday nights so good for catching up. Tasting menu had generous servings and all very tasty. Had matching wines which were very nice.

Hidden away in Stanmore Village, Sixpenny feels like a quiet escape into contemporary Australian dining. 

The kitchen puts together a thoughtful 7-course seasonal menu, leaning on an in-house pantry of koji-fermented pastes and sauces that give each dish a deep, umami-rich flavour.

They work closely with small-scale farmers and fishermen, so everything on the plate tastes really fresh and well considered. 

On top of that, they’re happy to adjust courses for most dietary requirements as long as you mention it when booking, which makes the experience feel quite flexible.

One thing to keep in mind is the reservation policy. There’s a $75 AUD per person non-refundable deposit required upfront, so you need to plan before locking it in.

Even so, the 1907 heritage building adds a really cosy, neighbourhood feel that makes the strict booking rule easier to overlook once you’re sitting down to eat.

Would definitely come back

A great fine dining experience. The space is quite intimate, almost as if you were in a room of a house. Each dish was presented well and the tasting menu itself was excellent in its range of dishes and flavours. We did the sixpenny wine pairing which also complimented the experience really well. Service was also great. Would definitely come back for a special occasion in the near future!

This place blew us away

Lovely little non assuming restaurant in the inner suburbs of Sydney. A tasting menu that blew us away. Both vegetarian and the meat version are excellent. Even better, the wine pairings are outstanding. Best I have come across yet.

Palazzo Salato is a real tribute to classic Roman trattorias, serving hand-rolled pasta, sustainably sourced proteins, and an 800-bottle wine list that feels almost endless.

You can always rely on signature dishes like their savoury house ham paired with a sharp colatura hot sauce, giving it a nice punch of flavour. There’s also a strong focus on keeping the menu grounded in traditional Italian techniques.

What keeps it interesting, though, is how the experience doesn’t stay still for long, since they often bring in guest chefs for collaborations that give the menu a fresh twist each time you go back. 

They also have a bar that pours a rotating selection of around 50 wines by the glass.

The downside is that the underground Letra House section moves at a much faster, more energetic pace, which might not suit you if you’re after a quiet, slow dinner. It’s more lively and social, especially downstairs.

Great experience

Tasting menu was so great!!! All entrees were amazing, pasta was so good. Even if the steak was a bit overcooked but it’s okay. Wine bottle is a bit pricy but we had a good recommendation from them. Thank you!

The food was great

We tried the 120/pp sample tasting and shared a bottle of rest among few of us. Pretty extensive drinks menu. The food was great and nice atmosphere. Particularly enjoyed the pasta, steak, shellfish and dessert. Had a really good time catching up with some friends whom I haven’t seen since beginning of Covid.
