Business hours:

  • Tuesday to Wednesday – 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
  • Thursday – 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM
  • Friday – 4:00 PM to 3:00 AM
  • Saturday – 5:00 PM to 3:00 AM

Employees Only is a sophisticated cocktail bar and restaurant located in Sydney. It was inspired by its renowned New York counterpart, offering a combination of vintage and contemporary flair.

Upon entering the venue, I was greeted by a beautiful interior. I appreciated the dark timber accents, brass finishes, as well as the ambient lighting that sets the mood for the visitors.

However, the main highlight of this place is its burlesque performances. The entertainment typically occurs every Friday and Saturday night, featuring dancers in dazzling costumes.

In fact, you need to watch out for the performance of Porcelain Alice – a renowned Sydney artist known for her signature humor and vintage girl charisma. Her performances often include feather-fan dances and daring feats like sword swallowing.

Apart from that, you can also see the curved brass-topped bar that serves as the centerpiece. I highly suggest you try their Amelia – it’s their signature cocktail and a mixture of vodka, blackberry puree, and fresh lemon.

Additionally, they offer tasty and unique food, including the hand-cut steak tartare, bone marrow poppers, and more. The venue also accommodates dietary preferences with vegetarian and gluten-free options.

Pro tip:

The venue’s security has the right to refuse entry and a smart casual dress code applies. I highly suggest dressing up and not wearing hoodies, activewear, shorts, or similar attire.

Compared to others, the Magician’s Cabaret is a theatre restaurant located on the waterfront at Jones Bay Wharf. Since 2010, it has been offering an immersive experience of combined Parisian-style cabaret and magic shows.

One of its signature performances is the La Belle Rose, which is held every Saturday night. This show provides you with song, dances, colorful costumes, and magic, aiming to celebrate the joy of living.

While it seems overwhelming to see all those beautiful and shining decorations, the venue is known for its enchanting and elegant atmosphere. As you enter the venue, you’ll see their 1800s proscenium arch stage and a top hat bar offering cocktails and wines.

You can never go wrong when it comes to their food, as they use high-quality ingredients and modernize techniques of cooking.
