The 5 Best Vietnamese Restaurants in Sydney for Your Next Food Trip

  • Authenticity of Flavours: Do the dishes taste true to traditional Vietnamese cooking?
  • Menu Variety: We chose restaurants that offer more than just pho and spring rolls. A wider menu shows effort and can reflect different regional styles of Vietnamese cuisine.
  • Service Quality: Are the staff welcoming, polite, and attentive? Do they make guests feel comfortable throughout the visit?
  • Atmosphere: We also took note of the restaurants’ atmosphere. This includes lighting, seating, music, and decorations.

My family has always been adventurous when it comes to food. A big part of my childhood was spent trying different restaurants every weekend.

Some weeks, we were customers at Chinese restaurants, and others we were at Filipino restaurants. There was never really a strict pattern, which made it even more fun.

Lately, I realised how much I missed that tradition. So I rounded up my friends and decided to bring it back. This time, we were all curious about Vietnamese cuisine. One meal turned into another, and before we knew it, we were completely hooked.

Now we’ve built a solid list of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Sydney. And really, what’s the point of finding great spots if you’re just going to keep them to yourself?

Here are the ones we think are absolutely worth trying!

How much does dining in a Vietnamese restaurant cost in Sydney?

Dining in a Vietnamese restaurant in Sydney can cost around $20–$40 AUD per person for casual dining. Budget-friendly options are available for under $20, while more upscale spots can exceed $40–$70 per person.

1. Cam On Restaurant (Market City)

Address: Dining Precinct Market City Shopping Centre, Level 3, Shop 9/13 Hay St, Haymarket
Business hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 11 AM – 8 PM

Website

If you’re wandering through Market City with a ten-dollar bill, Cam On is basically worth the try! Their claim to fame is the $9.80 pho that’s available all day long.

Even with the smaller portion size at that price point, their beef quality still deserves a shout-out. They aren’t stingy with the protein. The thinly sliced meat is tender enough to make you forget you’re eating in a bustling market.

My hungry teammates gave their combination pho cool some thumbs up too. It’s a total powerhouse of wagyu, tendon, and meatballs.

Every one of us was also obsessed with their coconut water. It’s fresh, it’s cold, and the best part is it’s free!

Just remember to bring cash! They aren’t exactly the place that has adapted to the digital wallet system.

Pros

  • Budget-friendly
  • High-end meat quality
  • Great value for the combination pho
  • Free coconut water
  • Welcoming service

Cons

  • Strict cash-only policy

The Best Pho in Sydney!

“My opinion this is the Best Pho in Sydney! Soup is very delicious and hot. Portion is also big. Service is great, place is nice. I tried other Phos in Sydney but still this place made me come back for more.”

We sat at Viet Earth’s balcony just as the sun started to dip. Let me tell you, having the Harbour Bridge and Luna Park hanging out in the background makes a casual day feel like a cinematic event.

What these guys do best is capture that specific taste of Hanoi. We tried their stir-fried pho, and it was delicious.

To wash it down, we managed to snag some Hanoi beer. It’s ridiculously rare to find that in Sydney, and pairing it with their food is the closest thing to a plane ticket to Vietnam.

Their fried tofu is also a great choice if you’re stuck on what to order. It has that perfect crunch-to-fluff ratio that makes it addictive. The use of QR codes also makes ordering quick and efficient.

Some of us were vegetarians, and they definitely flagged something. Plant-based options are pretty limited, and there have been some stray meat sightings in some of their dishes.

Pros

  • Authentic northern flavours
  • Rare beverage finds
  • Prime location and atmosphere
  • Easy ordering system

Cons

  • Limited vegetarian options

A Vietnamese restaurant that truly deserves to go viral!

“A Vietnamese restaurant that truly deserves to go viral! Highly recommend this spot if you’re around the North side of Sydney. The food is authentically Northern Vietnamese – true Hanoi flavors. I tried the stir-fried pho, and honestly, wow from the very first bite! It was incredibly delicious and tasted exactly like what you’d get in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. Paired it with a Hanoi Beer (which is super rare to find in Sydney!) — and it instantly brought back the taste of home.”

True to traditional Vietnamese cooking

“As someone born and raised in Hanoi, I can say the food here is incredibly authentic. The flavours are well-balanced and true to traditional Vietnamese cooking. The staff are also really friendly and attentive, making the whole dining experience warm and welcoming. Highly recommended!”

My team and I visited Cash Only Diner to see if the name was a lie. Spoiler alert: they actually take cards, so you can put that emergency twenty back in your shoe.

The place has a lot of natural light, which is great for seeing your food. Everything that we’ve ordered has such an interesting and creative presentation.

We ordered their famous Bun Bo Hue, which is the ultimate litmus test for any Vietnamese spot. It’s a beast of a dish to get right, but they nailed it! It’s packed with umami and a generous amount of beef and noodles.

The staff is another win too. They’re knowledgeable and cheerful whenever customers come through their door. They also ask about any food allergies so they can cater their food properly.

However, the place can get busy and crowded, especially during lunch and dinner time.

Pros

  • Exceptional foods
  • High-level hospitality
  • Creative presentation
  • Great atmosphere
  • Payment flexibility

Cons

  • Often gets busy

The best stir fry noodles of my life

“I happen to discover this gem by chance. Was searching for Vietnamese cuisine restaurants and found a long queue outside the one I initially planned to dine. So I changed my mind and entered here. The food, though it’s Vietnamese it has got their own twist which made it even better. Probably, the best stir fry noodles of my life and the pork skewers felt like heaven in every bite…”

Every dish was not only delicious but also beautifully prepared

“This was my first time trying Vietnamese food presented in such an interesting and creative style—and I was truly impressed! Every dish was not only delicious but also beautifully prepared, full of fresh flavors and vibrant colors. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was warm and attentive.”

4. Phan’s House

phan-s-house

Address: 117B Macleay St, Potts Point

Phone: +61 493 167 288
Business hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 10 AM – 9 PM
  • Friday to Saturday: 10 AM – 9:30 PM
  • Sunday: 10 AM – 9 PM

Website

Phan’s House may be a tiny place, but the flavours here are loud. We spent some time hovering over their menu. Honestly, the lack of fifty-page options meant they could actually put the effort into each dish’s quality.

We ordered a bunch of food, including their grilled chicken roll. They’re great at balancing their protein-to-salad ratio, and their sauce is excellent. Even the rice paper rolls feel like they were made five minutes ago.

This place is an absolute goldmine for the vegetarian crowd, which isn’t always a given in the world of Vietnamese food.

If you usually settle for a sad tofu substitute, you’ll be pleasantly surprised here. The vegetarian rolls are actually impressive!

That said, there are some customers who reported that the service can be slow sometimes.

Pros

  • Balances protein to salad
  • Fresh ingredients
  • Vegetarian friendly
  • Great value
  • Welcoming atmosphere

Cons

  • Occasional slow service

Super fresh food and great portions

“Found this restaurant while wondering on the street. Super fresh food and great portions. The crispy pork belly is surprisingly delicious! The banh mi is also really great, full of fillings and nice balance of meat & veggies.”

Susan Chen, Google review

The food is very tasty and worth of money

“The food is very tasty and worth of money. I like the chicken rice noodle there. Very special made chicken meat ball. The pork skewers is tasty as well,  the sauce is yummy. I think it’s a restaurant worth to come again.”

5. Annamese

  • Saturday: 12 PM – 3:30 PM, 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM
  • Sunday: 12 PM – 3:30 PM, 5:30 PM – 9 PM

A Vietnamese dinner date isn’t a bad idea, as long as you’ll take them to Annamese. Besides the killer waterfront view, the atmosphere is so modern and stylish. You’ll feel like you should be holding a cocktail.

Speaking of which, the drinks here are a total mood. They’ve got interesting cocktails that are perfect to complement whatever meal you order.

When it comes to the food, the kitchen isn’t just about cooking. The presentation is so sharp that we had to take a few photos for our Instagram feeds.

We had the Bo Luc Lac (grilled wagyu beef), and it was butter-soft. The other customers around us were also nodding their heads and smiling after tasting their dishes.

Just remember that pricing is on the higher end here. It’s a bit of a splurge, but for those who want sensational dishes in a top-notch location, it’s a clear win.

Pros

  • Exceptional food presentation
  • Delicious dishes
  • Modern and stylish vibe
  • Interesting cocktails
  • Excellent service

Cons

  • Higher pricing

We absolutely loved the atmosphere

“We absolutely loved the atmosphere, the friendly service, and the amazing flavours at Annamese. Our standout favourites were the scallop and prawn dumplings, the crab and prawn spring rolls, and the slow-cooked lamb shoulder (although actual portion of lamb could have been more substantial ;). The cocktails were also on point and the perfect complement to the meal.”

Will be recommending Annamese to our family and friends

“Was so impressed with Annamese from the moment we walked in and left. Service was super attentive and cannot fault any of the dishes we tried. Special shout out to the oysters, king prawns and steak – everything was seasoned well and that made our experience so much better! Will be recommending Annamese to our family and friends”
