Best MMA Gyms in Sydney to Train Hard and Level Up
In a time dominated by pilates and walkathons, the art of mixed martial arts (MMA) can fade into the background. But hey, this isn’t a sport worthy of oblivion. I’ve met a lot of people who have improved their fitness, confidence, and discipline because of it.
So if you’ve ever thought about trying it out, our team is help you out! We know that not every gym will suit every person.
That’s why we’ve looked at the best MMA gyms in Sydney so you can choose wisely!
How much does MMA training cost in Sydney?
MMA training in Sydney costs about $40–$85 per week for gym memberships. If you go more casual, it’s around $20–$30 per session, while private coaching can be $50–$150 per hour.
1. Open Sparring Muay Thai Sydney & BJJ Sydney

Address: Lower Basement, 27 Park St
Business hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 6:30 AM – 9:30 PM
You’d probably think that a gym with serious training might be rigid, but that’s definitely not the case at Open Sparing Muay Thai Sydney. They have a very welcoming atmosphere here, which is harder to pull off than many fight gyms would like to admit.
Clients loved that they could show up at any time of the day and still have classes to attend to. They have multiple sessions in the mornings, lunchtime, and evening options.
From what we’ve heard, instructors really pay close attention to detail. They guide students through techniques properly and supervise sparring or rolling in a controlled way.
The classes usually move from drilling into live rounds, giving students a chance to apply techniques rather than just memorise them.
The main downside we found is its basement location. While it’s clean and air-conditioned, some people may find the lack of natural light or windows a bit enclosed.
Phenomenal gym
“Phenomenal gym. Joined as a visitor for a week long mixed pass. Was able to train Muay Thai and no-gi BJJ. Remarkable group of students, welcoming and kind. Various skill levels. The instructors were excellent, offering technical expertise and solid oversight. The structure of the classes were unique and perfect for both learning and drilling a technique or set of techniques and then spending the remainder of the class sparring or rolling with students. The students pace or adapt to the lowest skill level. It always felt controlled and attuned. If you’re new to the sport or a vet, this gym has it all. Highly recommended! Grateful for the temporary and warm welcome while traveling.”

Highly recommend checking this place out
“I’ve been training BJJ at Open Sparring for the past 4months, and it’s been absolutely amazing. Really easy to get to (walkable from both Gadigal Metro and Town Hall stations), clean facilities, awesome coaching (Calvin and Chris are amazing!!) and fantastic crowd. Highly recommend checking this place out”
2. Igor MMA Sydney

Address: 32 Ebley St, Bondi Junction
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday: 6 AM – 8:30 PM
- Saturday: 6 AM – 2 PM
- Sunday: Closed
Mixed martial arts can be intimidating for beginners, but we didn’t feel that at Igor MMA Sydney. It has a very healthy gym culture!
They welcome first-timers while still maintaining quality to serve experienced athletes, which is a balance that can be hard to pull off.
There are many knowledgeable trainers here who are able to cover Muay Thai, boxing, wrestling, and more. They seem stronger than most in offering a rounded combat sports education.
We also loved how they put a lot of effort into technique and safety. Feedback points to sessions prioritising precision over brute force, plus protective gear requirements for sparring.
But they’re not ideal for everyone. Membership terms may frustrate casual users. There are minimum periods, cancellation fees, and penalties for cancelling long-term contracts.
Training at Igor MMA has been an incredible experience!
“Training at Igor MMA has been an incredible experience! The instructors are super knowledgeable and always find the right balance between challenging and supporting you. The gym is well-equipped and always clean, and the atmosphere is really welcoming. Whether you’re new or already experienced, you’ll find the classes engaging and fun. The community is super friendly, and I’ve met so many people who share my passion for MMA. If you’re looking for a place to grow and have fun, this is the gym for you!”

3. Cortex MMA

Address: 21 McCauley St, Alexandria
Phone: +61 1300 092 020
Business hours:
- Monday: 7 AM – 8 AM, 3 PM – 8:30 PM
- Tuesday to Thursday: 3 PM – 8:30 PM
- Friday: 7 AM – 8 PM, 3 PM – 8:30 PM
- Saturday: 9 AM – 12 PM
- Sunday: Closed
Cortex MMA really understands that after a lot of intense training, some people need a slow recovery and mobility. No need to run to the nearest yoga studio after a session because they have that here!
We’ve heard a lot of positive feedback on their coaching. Clients said the instructors really watch all the members closely. They’d correct mistakes instead of letting people drift through class unnoticed.
Some even praised how the coaches discuss the reasoning behind techniques, not just the movements themselves.
Membership flexibility is another practical win. No-contract options make it easier for hesitant beginners without feeling trapped.
Longer-term plans give more committed members a cheaper route. Couples and kids packages even widen the appeal!
Just take note of their schedules. They’re only open in the mornings on Saturdays and are closed on Sundays.
I can’t say enough good things about Cortex
“I can’t say enough good things about Cortex. The coaching is elite, the sessions are run properly, and the community is unreal. Everyone is friendly, respectful and wants to see you improve. It’s one of those places where you feel comfortable from day one, but you’re also constantly being pushed to get better.”

4. Power Core MMA Gym

Address: 7/394 Marrickville Rd, Marrickville
Phone: +61 403 938 797
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday: 4 PM – 9 PM
- Saturday to Sunday: Closed
Power Core MMA Gym really won our hearts. The team here knows that martial arts isn’t just about fighting, but also about confidence, discipline, and community.
We were impressed by how the coaches genuinely invest in people, especially younger students. One parent mentioned bringing his son in after bullying issues at school, and the coaches spent extra time mentoring him.
We’ve also heard that older students help younger ones here, suggesting a structured and respectful culture.
Their coaching style also seems more personal. Some members even said that sessions can feel like private lessons. The instructors are hands-on, attentive, and willing to correct technique every time.
From what we’ve heard, they can even tailor training for competitions.
That said, the gym can get busy a lot of times due to high demand. Some newer students had received less coaching compared to the regular fighters.
Very fun and engaging
“Love the Muay Thai training with Ronan, all the sessions I have attended so far are very fun and engaging. Rahner has been assisting me and supporting me so I am still able to train after a wrist injury. Highly recommend it.”

This place is amazing
“This place is amazing. As a beginner myself, Ive tried few other gyms but i felt left out as those coaches just focus on advanced guyz and treat beginners the same way. But here at powercore, coaches are extremely immersed into helping everyone. Head coach is always there helping students and making sure everyone is working hard. Despite the decent number of students in the class, the way coaches help everyone it feels like a private lesson. Everybody is super friendly and have a great community vibe.”

5. Ultimate Fitness Centre

Address: Ground Floor/305 Kent St
Phone: +61 409 207 575
Business hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 7 AM – 7 PM
- Friday: 7 AM – 6 PM
- Saturday: 9 AM – 10 AM
- Sunday: Closed
Ultimate Fitness Centre is for those who want a full-spectrum training environment. They have classes across boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ, capoeira, and more.
That variety doesn’t seem affected by the quality of the training, though. And that’s thanks to their instructors! We’ve heard that the instructors have amateur or semi-professional fight experience, with some still active.
Members also mention trainers making an effort to know people personally, which a lot of people appreciate.
For more competitive members, there also seems to be a pathway to level up. People mentioned sparring opportunities and amateur night for members wanting to test themselves.
The facilities also deserve praise for their new equipment. They’re just a bit high in demand, which often leads to crowded classes sometimes.
Fantastic gym and superb coaches
“Fantastic gym, super coaches, technical but fun training, great energy & a second to none community. Regardless of your goal, UFC team will enable you to surpass it. I joined to learn a new skill, and take on a challenge that was far out of my comfort zone, but with the support, encouragement & education here, I not only continue to achieve that, but have also grown in confidence, resilience & strength! My fitness has never been better and I get to have a laugh with good folk along the way. Some might say another day in Paradise.”
