The 5 Best Steak Restaurants in Sydney That’ll Have Every Foodie’s Mouth Watering
It is a universally acknowledged truth that a bad steak is disappointing. We have all been there: all hyped for a great meal, only to end up with a tough, flavourless piece of meat.
It’s a letdown that sticks with you, especially when you’ve forked out half your wallet for it.
Thinking of our own steak fails, we wanted to make sure you never have to gamble on your next steak night.
So we did the research and did some taste-testing to find the spots where the steak is done right and worth the price. Below are the best steak restaurants in Sydney that you have to visit now!
How much does it cost to eat at a steak restaurant in Sydney?
It costs at least $50 to eat at a steak restaurant in Sydney. This is just an estimate. The actual price will depend on the steak cut, the restaurant and more.
1. Elements Smokehouse and Bar

Address: 248 Palmer St, Darlinghurst NSW 2010, Australia
Contact Details: +61 1300 353 636
Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Thursday – 5:30 PM to 10 PM
- Friday & Saturday – 5:30 PM to 11 PM
Elements Smokehouse and Bar has an unapologetically American approach to steak, coupled with a flair for tableside presentation.
We love a restaurant that knows how to put on a show, and their Cowboy’s Rib Eye Bounty deal certainly delivers on Tuesdays and Thursdays ($119).
The staff actually carves up an 800-gram rib eye right in front of diners. It’s basted and torched with garlic-harissa butter, and each bite has a lingering smoky note of burnt rosemary.
We came on Wild West Steak Night, their more affordable steak deal. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays, they serve their premium Sirloin steak for $59 per person. That’s a deal that’s pretty hard to beat.
Our steak was seared to perfection, and the chimichurri sauce brought out its best flavours. We also loved the richness of the Parmesan mascarpone combined with their creamy potato puree.
Desserts here were delicious too. The pistachio panna cotta was our favourite. The crushed pistachios, creamy vanilla, and a hint of sea salt made the dessert the perfect finish to our steak meal.
The restaurant is quite popular, though. While we didn’t have to wait long during our visit, a few regulars we spoke with said there are times when the restaurant gets really packed, and you have to wait a few minutes to be seated.
Highlight being rib-eye steak!
“It was really good experience! I went to celebrate my friends bday with my girlfriends so we ordered a variety of dishes with the highlight being Rib eye steak!
It was perfection! Cooked to rare medium and I loved the theatrics of serving it 🙂
Sharing pictures of the food!
The only place where they can improve is the dessert – we ordered the pistachio panna cotta – it was very average.”

Perfect steak dinner
“Perfect steak dinner at Elements Smokehouse and Bar. We had the cowboy steak, Australian ribeye beef bone in, and it was seared and carved up at the table side. The medium rare quality was on point except for a few pieces which were more medium.
The truffle mac and cheese was great and the Chimichurri sauce was delicious but sadly it cost $5, I would think that such steaks should at least come with 1-2 sauce complimentary.
Overall, it was an amazing dinner at Elements and would highly recommend a try if you are visiting Sydney.”

2. The Gidley

Address: Basement/161 King St, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia
Contact Details: +61 2 9169 6898
Operating Hours: Monday to Saturday – 12 PM to 12 AM
The Gidley stands out for its range and quality of cuts.
The Rib Eye on the Bone is char-grilled over a combination of ironbark and charcoal. This technique gives the steak a smoky crust while keeping the inside tender and juicy.
The Boneless Rib Eye Chop left a real impression on us, thanks to its bourbon glaze and perfect sear. The bourbon glaze has a smoky, caramelised flavour. We also appreciated that the fat was rendered well, giving each mouthful a buttery finish.
The spinalis, often called the ribeye cap, wins many regulars over. It’s seared just enough to develop a crisp bark, but still beautifully pink in the centre. Regulars we spoke to all praise its buttery texture and deep, rich flavour.
The wine list is packed with reds and whites, and the staff actually know what they’re talking about. We got a spot-on pairing for our steak.
They also have unique private dining rooms, like the Library, an intimate room with a custom-built poker table underneath the dining table.
That said, the main seating area does get quite crowded. We could hardly hear ourselves over all the loud chatter.
The ribeye was the most tender steak I’ve had
“Everything was perfect — from the service to the drinks to the food.
The cocktail was excellent — well presented with a strong, bold flavour.
The burger was perfectly cooked, the bun was fresh, and the beef was incredibly succulent.
The ribeye was the most tender steak I’ve had in Sydney — perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and bursting with flavour.
The service was great. Although phones aren’t allowed, I loved the food so much that it didn’t matter.
This was a win. We’ll definitely be back.”

The steak was well-cooked and delicious
“I prefer to take photos of food but our phones were taken away 😭. Suffice to say the burger is as good as they say. One of the best I’ve had. It’s the quality of the meat that sets it apart. We also tried the prawn cocktail and they came with large lettuce to wrap with delicious sauce. The steak was well cooked and delicious. The brussel sprouts and Mac&cheese also were a standout. I look forward to going back!”

3. BISTECCA

Address: 3 Dalley St, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia
Contact Details: +61 2 8067 0450
Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday – 12 PM to 12 AM
Bistecca focuses on one thing and does it exceptionally well: the classic Tuscan T-bone, bistecca alla Fiorentina.
We found it interesting that they get their meat from Riverine in New South Wales. It’s a good sign that their steaks are high-quality and not just supermarket cuts.
We appreciate the extra care they take in presenting the classic Tuscan T-bone. What drew us in was watching the steak being cut and weighed right at the table, then cooked over a wood fire to a medium-rare.
It was well-seasoned with salt, pepper and a drizzle of olive oil. We also loved the complementary sides, such as the confit garlic cream.
The wine list features only Italian grape varieties, and the staff are eager to share their best picks.
While we were tempted to get a class of red, we ended up ordering a cocktail. We loved their old-world cocktail bar, packed with Italian amaro and Negronis.
The only slight con we have to say is that their focus on the signature T-bone means less variety for those after different cuts of steak.
Perfectly cooked steak with phenomenal flavouring
“We had an amazing time. Steak was perfectly cooked and flavouring was phenomenal, Brussel sprouts were delicious and also loved the Bone marrow and Pizza dough. Service was warm, attentive and professional. They make you put your phone away and lock it in a little lockbox so you can focus and enjoy the experience.”

Steak was the best we’ve had in a LOOONG while
“Sophie and the host (forgot to get her name) took care of our dining experience and it was all great! Food and drinks were to die for. Ambience was so comfy. Steak was the best we’ve had in a LOOONG while and my partner is a grill chef so we had high expectations. Did not disappoint!! Will definitely come back a million times more ☺️”

4. The Meat & Wine Co Sydney CBD Castlereagh St

Address: 219-223 Castlereagh St, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia
Contact Details: +61 2 9252 7888
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Saturday – 12 PM to 10 PM
- Sunday – 12 PM to 9:30 PM
The Meat and Wine Co made our list because of their exclusive line of Monte beef. Their AGED programme makes it easy for diners to try a variety of world-class aged steaks.
We tried their Butter Aged Southern Range Rib-Eye. It came dripping in chipotle-spiked butter and spring onions. Each bite had a layered, smoky flavour that made us rethink what “aged beef” can mean.
We also appreciated that they’re transparent about their cuts and marbling scores, so people know exactly what they’re getting.
Their premium Wagyu dining options, such as the Mayura Station Signature New Yorker with its incredible MB 9+ marbling, are also proof of their truly exceptional cuts.
The menu goes beyond steak too. They also offer slow-cooked ribs, skewers, and desserts that actually tempted us to skip the usual cheese plate.
Their wine list also does not rate second to food. Regulars told us they value the knowledgeable staff who make wine pairing a breeze.
However, aged steaks are sometimes in limited supply, so we’d suggest calling ahead to see if they’re available.
Great food, drinks, and atmosphere
“Dined at The Meat & Wine Co in Sydney and had the pork belly to start—rich, tender, and full of flavour. The rump steak (well done) paired beautifully with a glass of Shiraz, and the crème brûlée was the perfect finish. The Love Thy Lychee cocktail was a standout—refreshing and well balanced. Great food, drinks, and atmosphere. Would definitely return.”

Steak was grilled to perfection
A fantastic dining experience at Meet and Wine in Sydney. The Salmon Tartare was fresh and well-balanced with the pickled cucumber, horseradish cream, and capers. Steak was grilled to perfection at median. The atmosphere warm and welcoming.”

5. Chophouse Sydney

Address: 25 Bligh St, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia
Contact Details: +61 2 9231 5516
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Wednesday – 12 PM to 9 PM
- Thursday & Friday – 12 PM to 9:30 PM
- Saturday – 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM
Chophouse Sydney won us over with its unwavering commitment to Australian-sourced, quality beef.
They put a lot of thought into sourcing and preparation, from their pasture-fed Eye-fillet to their dry-aged beef. This makes them one of the top dry-aged beef restaurants in Sydney.
We also appreciate their transparent pricing for their dry-aged cuts, allowing diners to choose the perfect size for their appetite.
We like that the menu lists the exact farm and feeding program for the steaks, e.g., grass-fed or pasture-fed. Plus, their sauces, like Café de Paris butter or Bordelaise, give plenty of ways to personalise the meal.
We appreciated the attention to the sides too. The oxheart tomatoes with peaches and merlot vinaigrette were delicious.
The dessert, especially the chocolate-hazelnut cookie, was a hit with our table.
The only drawbacks? Large groups get hit with a service charge. Groups of 8 or more get a 10% service charge. They also add a 10% surcharge on Sundays.
Steak was the star — juicy, well-cooked, and full of flavour
Chophouse was really solid. Steak was the star — juicy, well cooked, and full of flavour. Burrata to start was fresh and light, and the sides were done right. Dessert didn’t disappoint either (rum baba was especially good). Would come back.

Our steaks were very flavourful and tender
“Excellent restaurant. We are from the states and very picky about our steaks. Chophouse did not disappoint! The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Our steaks were very flavorful, tender and cooked to perfection. The side dishes were very and were a tasteful accompaniment to the steaks. The wine list is also very good and they offer premium wines by the glass.”
