Sydney’s pizza culture has been shaped for decades by waves of Italian immigration, especially from Naples and Sicily. As a result, our city takes pizza seriously. It’s not just a default Friday night takeaway, but a food with history, pride, and real craft behind it.
So the real question isn’t whether you can find authentic Neapolitan pizza in Sydney. You can. The question is: which places are genuinely worth your time and money, in a city where you could eat anywhere?
That question sent my team and me looking beyond the spots with the longest Saturday night queues or the most Instagram tags.
After a few too many slices and evenings wearing stretchy pants, these are the Sydney pizza restaurants we’d recommend any day!

When it comes to the best pizzas in Sydney, it’s hard to ignore Napoli Centro Pizzeria. This is the pizza store that transported us straight to Naples without ever leaving Sydney.
The crust is the star here. It’s blistered from the wood-fired oven, with just enough chew to have us eyeing the next slice before we’d finished the first.
We’ve tried many of their pizzas, but our go-to order remains the Diavolina. The tomato sauce is bright and tangy, while the hot salami brought a steady heat. The Kalamata olives also added a briny pop, and the mozzarella mellowed everything out.
Even the dessert impressed us. The Nutella Pizza with strawberries was indulgent without being overwhelming. Plus, the dough was so thin and tender that it was almost crepe-like.
When we chatted with regulars, many appreciated the 20% pizza deal that runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. It doesn’t apply to delivery, and there’s a $40 minimum spend, but the value is still solid.
Their pizzas travel surprisingly well, but we’d still recommend eating on-site. It’s fun lingering over your meal and enjoying the bonus of bringing your own wine.

We appreciated the freedom to choose between classic round pies and hefty square slices at City Oltra. There are also 10 different pizzas to explore, which made tasting across the menu easy.
The Rancho Relaxo is one of our favorites. It features spicy pepperoni tucked under a blanket of cheese, then cooled down with a drizzle of ranch. It packs heat, tang, and cream into every bite.
We also love how reliable the vegan options are. The Zucchini pizza comes with marinated zucchini, ricotta, and mozzarella. It’s finished with mint, lemon, and everything bagel crumbs for a mix of crunch, citrus, and creaminess.
For those who want to customize, the gluten-free square personal pan is perfect for mixing and matching styles.
Their dippers (hot honey, crispy chili, garlic parm, and ranch) make it even easier to polish off every last crust.
Our only gripe is the delivery. When we ordered in, the pizza didn’t stay as warm as we would’ve liked, likely due to the packaging. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s enough to make dining in the better move.

“Such lovely staff, service and food!! Went there with some friends and we ordered 3 pizzas among 6 people. The staff were so lovely with recommendations. The pizzas are so delicious- in particular I love the Bianca pizza with the hot honey. The crust is super thin and crispy – one of my favourites all time.
One of my friends cannot handle spice and was struggling with a pizza and they gave him some sauce to help soothe. I recommend sitting inside as well. Keep in mind it is close to the train station (just down the stairs from Central).”

La Coppola hooked us early with its lineup of 15+ pizzas, rotating wine list, and BYO option (with a $9 corkage fee).
The menu leans into its Sicilian roots by dividing pizzas into two camps: Rosso San Marzano and Bianca (extra virgin olive oil).
On our first visit, we headed straight for the Rosso San Marzano section. The San Marzano tomatoes they use brought in natural sweetness and low acidity that we really loved.
The Scopello struck a spot-on balance. Creamy burrata, salty salami, and spicy pancetta led the way. They were lifted by a hit of garlic, parsley, chilli, and olive oil. Every bite felt layered and intentional rather than overloaded.
For takeaway, we followed the house recommendation and tried the Zafferia from the Bianca side of the menu. The combination of burrata, pancetta, mushrooms, and garlic delivered the savoury depth we’re constantly chasing across Sydney’s pizza scene.
The only sour note came from the delivery experience. Updates were scarce, and we found ourselves checking the window every ten minutes.
At least the pizza arrived hot. The flavor was also good enough that, for now, we’re willing to forgive the wait.

The best gluten free pizza
“The best gluten free pizza I’ve ever had! I’ve been GF for 25 years so I’ve tried a lot of bad and average pizza bases. Not here they are real, fresh and made on site. And to die for great! If you are in Sydney you must try them. And the sizzling prawns 🍤 are a trip to heaven and you get a side of GF bread which is fresh out other pizza oven!”

Westwood keeps things tight with just seven rotating pizzas, which isn’t too bad for us. The small menu seems to be why they were able to perfect each one.
We started with the garlic and honey pie, and it hooked us immediately. The cow’s milk mozzarella melts into a soft, milky pool. The fermented honey adds a tangy sweetness that clings to the crust rather than tipping the whole thing into dessert territory.
The nduja, ricotta, and thyme pizza hits differently. Nduja (a soft, spicy Calabrian salami) seeps into a bed of caramelised onions, giving each bite a slow-building heat that’s kept in check by cool, creamy Vannella ricotta.
The Fraser Island spanner crab pizza seems popular among the regulars we spoke with, which isn’t surprising once you try it. The parsley, lemon, and shellfish oil create a bright, sea-flavoured dish that makes you feel as if you are eating by the water.
It’s just a bummer that they don’t offer gluten-free bases, which can be limiting to some customers. The venue is also walk-in only, with preorders available from 4 pm.

These are probably the best pizzas
“We came at 5.30pm and called to pre order so the pizzas were ready when we got there. There was limited seating inside, in front and next to the restaurant. The garlic was so fragrant in the honey garlic pizza, was not heavy or greasy at all. The crab pizza was spectacular and the tomato base was just chef kiss! These are probably the best pizzas i have ever had. I just cannot not compliment after every bite!”

We really love how Ta Ta Ta Pizza makes it easy to mix and match slices by selling them by the slice or in their Pizza Box (three or six slices).
After eating our way through multiple Sydney pizzerias, we appreciated the flexibility to build a meal slice by slice. It made it possible to taste more of the menu in one visit.
The Roman Bianca is a go-to forus. It comes with roasted potatoes, mozzarella, herb pesto, and parmesan. It has that salty, crunchy, creamy mix that we’ve quickly become addicted to.
The Beef Ragu slice seems pretty popular among regulars too. One person actually described the taste as that of a neighbourhood trattoria rather than a takeaway joint, which we think is mainly due to the slow-cooked sauce and fior di latte.
For those who can’t decide what to order, we found the Chef’s Selection a fun option. Letting the kitchen choose a slice or two feels a bit like a trust fall, but in the best way. Diners often end up discovering something they wouldn’t have picked themselves.
The only real downside is that there’s usually a small line in the evenings, but it tends to move quickly.

“The best Roman slice I’ve had in Aus. The undercarriage is exactly how I like it, no flop, just perfectly crisp and I mean perfectly crisp. The base is light and fluffy, and topping aren’t over the top, just right. I’m hoping the red sauce is made in house, as it tastes made fresh. The service is great in this place too!

Real quality pizza in Sydney
“Absolutely delicious! Tatata Pizza has quickly become our go-to spot for authentic, handmade pizza. The crust is perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the toppings are always fresh and flavorful. We tried the Truffle Mushroom and the Classic Margherita — both were amazing. Staff are super friendly and service is quick, even when they’re busy. You can tell they put a lot of care into what they do. Highly recommend for anyone looking for real quality pizza in Sydney!”
